KAUKAUNA — A year ago, the Kaukauna High School Galloping Ghosts football team was excited to just make the WIAA Division 2 playoffs, falling to Hartford in the opening round.

But this year, the Ghosts have loftier goals, and find themselves heading into the Level 3 weekend on a two-game playoff winning streak, both by comfortable margins.

The 6-seed Ghosts travel to 5-seed Homestead High School Friday, Nov. 4, 2022 in Mequon with the winner facing only one final playoff game before state.

Kaukauna got to this point in the season defeating two teams with better seeds to start the tournament.

The Ghosts defeated 3-seed Milwaukee King 35-39, followed by a 45-24 win over 2-seed Slinger.

Homestead also is on an upset streak, defeating No. 1 seed Hartford 10-7 a week ago. A week before that, they blew out 4-seed Milwaukee Vincent/Destiny 49-0.

The winner moves on to play for a state birth against the winner of #1 River Falls vs. #3 West De Pere game.
