KAUKAUNA — It’s one of the hottest topics on the Kaukauna Community Group each school year: Crossing guards, and how to get more of them.

A low rate of unemployment hasn’t made it easier to recruit new crossing guards, however this fall, inflation may be an incentive for some to earn some extra money.

The pay rate currently is $14.86 per hour for about one hour in the morning, one hour in the afternoon and one paid hour to get to and from the job.

Crossing guards are city of Kaukauna employees, and in a social media post Wednesday, they said they are recruiting for the fall.

“We know everyone is enjoying their summer and we don’t want to wish away time, but the school year will be here before you know it! We are in search of caring people to fill various positions as crossing guards,” read the post.

The city is looking for both regular and substitute crossing guards.
