KAUKAUNA — Kaukauna High School students have been training since mid-March for the school’s annual “Breaking Boundaries” triathlon and are prepared for a great day of competition on Friday, May 20, 2022 in Kaukauna.

This adaptive triathlon was created to give high school students with disabilities the opportunity to participate in a day filled with activity, cheering and community support, while teaching lessons about achieving difficult goals through dedication, goal-setting, determination and hard work.

Participating students will begin with a swimming event at the Heart of the Valley YMCA, followed by biking and running/walking events along the CE trail to the Bank of Kaukauna Stadium at Kaukauna High School (1701 County Road CE; Kaukauna, WI). This event is provided at no cost to high school student athletes and peer mentors.

At 9:05 a.m., Kaukauna High School will host a send-off parade (at KHS) for participants; the band will be on-hand, along with students and staff from the high school to get the event started, wish the competitors well and see them off to their competition.

Students will leave for the Heart of the Valley YMCA at 9:25 a.m.

The National Anthem and starting ceremonies will begin at 9:55 a.m., and the first wave of swimmers will hit the pool at 10:00.

The bike portion of the event will take place following swimming; students will bike from the Heart of the Valley YMCA to the Recyclist Bicycle Company. There, they will drop off their bikes and continue running or walking to the Bank of Kaukauna Stadium at Kaukauna High School to end the event with a celebratory lunch and closing picture by 1 p.m. Should rain cancel the even, a backup date of Monday, May 23rd will be used.

Fans are encouraged to join participants along the CE trail route.

The Breaking Boundaries Triathlon proudly promotes and supports a healthy lifestyle for our students while appropriately challenging their social, emotional and physical abilities in order to help each student exceed their own expectations.
