APPLETON – The teen convicted in a fatal shooting a little more than a year ago at the Fox River Mall has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Judge Mark McGinnis, sentenced Dezman Ellis during a court hearing Tuesday where Ellis also was sentenced to 25 years of extended supervision, according to media reports.

Ellis and Jovanni Frausto got into a confrontation Jan. 31, 2021 at the mall in Grand Chute when investigators say the two began arguing about a young woman.

That’s when Ellis, who was 17 at the time, threatened to “shoot this place up” before pulling out a handgun, killing Frausto and injuring a second man, according to court documents.

Ellis eventually pleaded guilty to amended charges including second-degree intentional homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
