KAUKAUNA — For the first time in its long history, the Carl Giordana Gymnasium at Holy Cross Parish will host a varsity high school boys’ basketball game.

The Ghosts are scheduled to host Burlington at Holy Cross at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 in a non-conference game.

Accoding to a tweet from @KaukaunaBBall, The game will be played at Holy Cross because there is an all-day girls youth tournament at KHS, and the gym floor at River View is deemed too slippery for a varsity contest.

“This is the first varsity game to ever be played in this gym. Carl would be thrilled!!!!!” read one of the tweets.

Admission is the same as KHS games, and all passes will be honored.

But before Saturday’s game, the Ghosts have two big conference matchups on the schedule.

Kaukauna travels to rival Kimberly Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against the Papermakers.

They then return home Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game against Appleton East. That game will be streamed live by the Appleton Post-Crescent.

This won’t be the first time a large crowd will be in the gym for a highly competetive game, however.

The Carl Giordana Gymnasium is home to the annual, long-running Holy Cross Men’s Open Basketball Tournament, which draws some of the top high school, college and amateur hoopers in the state to Kaukauna.

The 53rd Annual Holy Cross Men’s Open Basketball Tournament will be held on March 25-27 and April 1-3 in 2022.
