LITTLE CHUTE — An 85-year-old Appleton man died Monday morning after a crash with a semi in Little Chute.

James Van Asten died after being taken to the hospital following the crash, according to the Fox Valley Metro Police.

Officers from the Fox Valley Metro Police Department responded shortly before 11 a.m. Monday near the intersection of E. North Avenue and Freedom Road in the Village of Little Chute for a crash involving a semi-tractor with trailer and a bicyclist.

Upon arrival, aid was rendered by officers to Van Asten, who sustained life threatening injuries, according to a police news release.

Van Asten was taken to Theda Care Regional Medical Center, Neenah by Gold Cross Ambulance Service where he died, according to police.

The roadway remained closed for several hours for traffic crash reconstruction but has since reopened.

The Fox Valley Metro Police Department was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and the Little Chute Fire Department.
