KAUKAUNA — Aaron Schimke, 16, who will be a senior next year at Kaukauna High School, finished third overall in the 2021 Firecracker 5K run walk.
Schimke, a state qualifier last fall in cross country, finished with a time of 16:56.3.
Megan Kennedy, 17, was Kaukauna’s top women’s finisher, with a time of 21:59.0.
Kennedy, who finished 28th overall, is a member of Kaukauna’s first WIAA state champion cross country team.
Matt Kasten of Menasha was the overall men’s winner with a time of 16:15.1 and Abraham Mendoza of Appleton was third with a time of 16:31.2.
Nicole Strutz of Two Rivers was the women’s winner, finishing 9th overall with a time of 18:50.2.
The 5K is professionally timed with awards given to the top 3 overall male and female finishers as well as top 3 in each age group.
There also were 5K finisher medals (year 3 of a 4 part series) and the University of Wisconsin marching band performed.
