GRAND CHUTE — Luckily, officers were out of their squad car early Saturday investigating an accident when a pickup slammed into their parked vehicle.

Officers were investigating a two vehicle rollover crash about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 on I 41 southbound at College Avenue, according to a Grand Chute Police Department news release.

While investigating the crash, an unrelated southbound pick-up truck entered the scene and struck a parked and unoccupied Grand Chute squad car.

Photographs show the rear end of the squad car completely demolished.

The crash scene resulted in completely shutting down I 41 southbound for two hours.

Appleton Police, Winnebago County Sheriff, Outagamie County Sheriff, Grand Chute Fire Department and Fox Crossing Fire Department all responded to assist with the second crash.

In the original crash, two vehicles were involved and resulted in four patients being transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the second crash with the squad car, which resulted in a passenger of the pick-up being transported to the hospital with serious injuries. No officers were injured.
