GREEN BAY — Green Bay Packers’ star running back Aaron Jones isn’t one to forget about those who have helped him, in ways both large and small.
On Wednesday, Jones surprised the Packers’ head athletic trainer who stayed into the early hours last month to scour the end zone of Lambeau Field and eventually find the pendant that contained the ashes of Jones’ late father.
In a video posted to the Packers’ Facebook page, Jones surprised Bryan “Flea” Engel with scooters for his family as a heartfelt thank you.
“I’m here to surprise my boy Flea. I got him some scooters as a small token of my appreciation for all the hard work he does and going back out their late at night to find it,” Jones said in the video.
As was widely reported at the time, the pendant came detached from Jones’ necklace at some point during the Packers’ 35-17 win over the Detroit Lions Sept. 20 on Monday Night Football.
Jone’s father, Alvin Sr., who attended nearly all his son’s games dating back to Aaron’s time at the University of Texas-El Paso, passed away in April at 57 years old after complications due to COVID-19.
“It says a lot about Aaron Jones, but I think it also says a lot about Flea and what kind of guy he is,” said Head Coach Matt LaFleur. “(Flea) means so much to us – both of those guys do – and obviously I think Aaron being in the stadium for the first time without his father, that was a pretty big deal and for him to go out there and perform and have four touchdowns, I think that was a pretty big moment for him.”
