KAUKAUNA — The city of Kaukauna appears to be considering the purchase of River View Middle School after the new middle school opens in 2028.

According to the agenda from last night’s common council meeting, councel members had scheduled a closed session to discuss buying the property:

  1. e.Adjourn to Closed Session Pursuant to State Statute 19.85(1)(e) Deliberating or negotiating the purchasing of public properties, the investing of public funds, or conducting other specified public business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session – River View Middle School.

Construction on the new middle school located on the city’s south side near the high school is under way, following the groundbreaking in June.

The project remains on track and is scheduled to open for students at the beginning of the 2028–2029 school year.

The $198 million referendum, approved by voters in November 2024, has allowed the district to:

  • Build a new, innovative middle school to replace River View, which the district says no longer adequately meets the needs of students.
  • Expand access to 4K and 5K programs at Victor Haen Elementary School, providing more opportunities for the youngest learners.
  • Renovate key areas at Park Community Charter School, including the main office and library, to better serve students and staff.
  • Enhance safety and security across all district schools and address high-priority maintenance needs.

The original building facing the Fox River was built in the 1920s, with a new addition added later.

It served as Kaukauna’s high school until the new facility was built on the south side when it became River View Middle School.
