APPLETON — A new K-9 is joining the Appleton Police Department.
K-9 Vader will be joining the department after the retirement last month of K-9 Onyx after 5 years of service with his handler, Officer Josh Rieth.
Rieth now has a new partner, and the two are currently in New Mexico beginning their training together.
Vader will eventually join the K-9 team here in Appleton, where he’ll put that training to work serving the community.
In a social media post, the department thanked those who has supported the APD K-9 Fund.
“Your generosity has helped make it possible to bring Vader to Appleton while also ensuring our K-9s receive the highest quality care, training and equipment throughout their careers,” they wrote.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support our community shows these four-legged members of our department and the work they do.”
