APPLETON — A survey by the National Weather Service’s Green Bay office has determined that the devastating tornado that ripped through Menasha and Appleton Monday was a category EF-3.
The tornado was first detected by radar at 11:56 a.m. and packed winds up to 140 mph and developed two miles west-northwest of Appleton and tracked south into Fox Crossing and Menasha with damage to homes, businesses, and downed power lines and trees.
The tornado tracked on the surface for for more than 12 miles and roughly 26 minutes.
The tornado dissipated over Lake Winnebago around 12:22 p.m.
