APPLETON — One person was hospitalized Wednesday evening following a fire that began in the kitchen of an Appleton home.
According to a news release, the Appleton Fire Department was sent to a fire in a home in the 3000 block of North Meade Street in Appleton.
The initial call indicated there was a fire in the kitchen and that someone was possibly inside.
When they arrived, fire companies confirmed light smoke coming from the roof. Fire companies began search and rescue efforts and located the fire.
One person was removed from the home, treated on scene, and transferred to a local hospital.
The person’s condition has not been released.
Companies brought the fire under control within 20 minutes.
Firefighters are working to determine a cause.
Properly working smoke alarms were not sounding, according to the fire department.
Damage to the building and contents are estimated to be $80,000.
The Appleton Fire Department was assisted by Appleton Police Department, Grand Chute Fire Department, and Gold Cross Ambulance.
The Appleton Fire Department would like to remind residents to know two ways out of every room. It is important to know two ways out in case one is blocked or dangerous.
