LITTLE CHUTE — Authorities are warning vehicle owners to take extra precautions following a series of thefts and attempted break-ins involving Kia and Hyundai models over the past several weekends.

The Fox Valley Metro Police Department says the thefts have happened both locally and in surrounding Fox Valley communities.

According to a news release, the department has received multiple reports of stolen vehicles as well as cars that were damaged during unsuccessful attempts to take them.

To combat the trend, police are encouraging owners of the affected makes to ensure their doors and windows are locked at all times and to park in well-lit or secure locations whenever possible.

Safety recommendations from officials include installing aftermarket anti-theft systems or using steering wheel locking devices to deter potential thieves.

Additionally, owners are encouraged to contact their local dealerships to schedule appointments for available anti-theft software updates specifically designed for Kia and Hyundai models.

The Fox Valley Metro Police Department is seeking information regarding the recent thefts and damage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the department or email investigators directly.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may contact the Quad Communities Crime Stoppers, where callers may be eligible for a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
