APPLETON — A Little Chute woman faces multiple felony charges after police say she drove over an Appleton police officer who was responding to a disturbance.
The injured officer was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance, treated at a local hospital, and was released.
According to a news release, Appleton police officers responded at 2:41 a.m. Saturday to a report of an argument in a parking lot near S. Walnut St and W. Lawrence St.
When officers arrived and attempted to talk with a woman who was in her vehicle, she accelerated from a parking stall towards a group of people in the parking lot.
The driver then made a second acceleration and directed her vehicle toward two police officers in the lot.
One officer was unable to move out of the way of the vehicle and was struck and knocked to the ground, and the driver proceeded to drive over his legs with the front and rear driver side tires, according to police.
The vehicle fled the parking lot and was quickly located by other Appleton officers.
Officers engaged in a short pursuit and were able to bring the vehicle to a stop.
The driver of the vehicle, age 21, was taken into custody and confined at the Outagamie County Jail.
