KAUKAUNA — A wood stove is being blamed for an overnight garage fire in Kaukauna that destroyed two vehicles.

According to a news release, the Kaukauna Fire Department responded at approximately 10:30 p.m. to a report of a garage fire on East Tobacnoir Street, where the person who lived there reported flames coming from their garage.

Kaukauna firefighters arrived on scene to find flames coming from the backside of a detached 2 ½ stall garage, with fire beginning to come through the roof. Fire crews stretched two handlines and were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes of arrival.

Two vehicles were inside the garage at the time of the fire, which were deemed a total loss.

Fire damage was confined to the garage and its contents, with no damage occurring to the house or neighboring structures.

No civilians or firefighters were hurt in the fire, and no residents were displaced.

Damages to the building and its contents are estimated to be $50,000.

The Kaukauna Fire Department was assisted by Little Chute Fire Department, Kaukauna Police Department, WE Energies and Kaukauna Utilities.

The fire was determined to have started from a wood stove that was in use at the time, according to fire officials.

The Kaukauna Fire Department is reminding residents to keep combustible materials and other flammable items at a safe distance from all heating sources, including wood stoves, furnaces and space heaters.
