FISH CREEK — An investigation is under way after the body of a 61-year-old woman was found deceased in the water in Door County’s Peninsula State Park.

According to a news release, the Door County Sheriff’s Office was notified at 8:13 a.m. Tuesday of a body found in the water near the Nicolet Bay Campground in Peninsula State Park.

Emergency personnel from Door County Emergency Services, Gibraltar Fire Department, Ephraim Fire Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Door County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

When they arrived, deputies and emergency personnel located the body of the woman. She has been identified, and notification of next of kin is underway. Her identity is not being released at this time.

Peninsula State Park remains open to visitors. Officials encourage park-goers to remain cautious and well-prepared when exploring remote or rugged areas of the park.

This incident remains under investigation, and no further details will be released at this time.
