The Kaukauna Ghosts' Fishing Team placed second Saturday in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association Open Water State Championship.

KAUKAUNA — The Kaukauna Ghosts’ Fishing Team placed second Saturday in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association Open Water State Championship.

With approximately 30 teams competing, this was the Ghosts’ best finish ever, finishing the day with more than 509 inches of fish.

The Freedom team also had a top-10 finish.

Kaukauna team members include Seniors Captain Ethan Meade, Austin Wojcik, EZ Ebreu, Juniors Reece Hemme (Captain), Griffin Planert, Jacob Hablewitz, Sophomores Evan Hoezel, Levi Kobs and Freshmen Aiden Pankratz, Aaron Phillips, Evin Crowe and Oliver Hall who all took kids out in boats.

Tiffany Kobs kept track of the team’s totals.

The team was coached by Mr. Dale Hallam, Mr. Hoezel, Mr. Joe and Mrs. Karina Hemme, Mr. Adam Hall, and Mr. Franzen.

“A huge thank you to all the support we have received from local fish clubs (Dave’s Musky Club and Lower Cliff Fishing Club), the whole community, the Kaukauna School District, past alumni, personal friends and the amazing families who believe in the power of fishing,” the team wrote on Facebook.

1. Slinger: 521.5 in

2. Kaukauna: 509.75 in

3. West De Pere: 500.25 in

4. Osceola: 493 in

5. Milton: 457 in

6. DC Everest: 403.75 in

7. Kettle Moraine: 394. 75 in

8. Kiel: 394.50

9. River Falls: 328 in

10. Freedom: 298.5 in
