KAUKAUNA, Wis. — Recent sightings in New Jersey of mysterious drones in the sky have brought heightened awareness throughout the country, including here in Wisconsin.

Residents have been speculating in the Kaukauna Community News Facebook group about recent sightings over Kaukauna of unidentified drones.

Kaukauna police, however, say they have not received any reports and have not seen any drones while out on patrol.

Since mid-November, large drones have been repeatedly spotted in the sky at night over central and northern New Jersey, including near a military installation.

According to a U.S. Department of Homeland Security information sheet, there currently is an active federal investigation into the drone sightings with the FBI leading the investigation.

At this time, according to the FBI, there are no known specific or credible threats related to these sightings.

However the news has spread across the country.

In a post Wednesday evening to the Kaukauna Community News Group, member named Philip Michael posted, “I can see 3 UFO’s in eastern sky in Kaukauna. They have been hovering there for at least 15 minutes. It can’t be helicopters, winds are too strong for flights right now. Anyone know what this is?”

In the comments, other members said they too had seen drone-like objects around Kaukauna in recent weeks.

Others suggested possible explanations, including:

  • Starlink internet satellites
  • 115th Fighter Wing evening training
  • Recent drone show over Lambeau Field
  • Recreational hobbyists
  • But others aren’t so sure they can be easily explained away.

“I live in Hollandtown and have seen three, not every night, but at least twice a week for a few months that I have noticed,” another user wrote.

In any case, as long as the New Jersey drones remain unexplained and in the news, people will continue to keep their eyes to the sky.
