APPLETON — The resident of an apartment was rescued by the Appleton Fire Department from a balcony using a ladder during a fire Sunday evening.

According to a news release, the Appleton Fire Department was called out about 9:40 p.m. Sunday to an apartment fire in the 1700 Block of East Longview St. in Appleton.

The initial call indicated smoke and fire showing from a second story apartment.

When they arrived, fire companies found a second-floor unit where the fire was burning.

Firefighters made and aggressive interior attack and searched the structure for occupants, one occupant was rescued from a balcony by ladder, according to the news release.

Companies brought the fire under control within 20 minutes.

Firefighters are working to determine a cause. Properly working smoke alarms were present and operating when fire companies arrived on scene.

Damage to the building and contents are estimated to be $200,000.00.

Department, American Red Cross, Gold Cross Ambulance and WE energies.
