VILLAGE OF HARRISON — Multiple departments responded Tuesday night to a fire at a home under construction in the village of Harrison.

There were no injuries on the scene to bystanders or emergency responders, but due to the extensive flames and fire spread, fire crews employed a defensive tactic to extinguish the fire, according to a news release from Harrison Fire Rescue.

The type of construction was also a contributing factor in the decision because the home was under construction and built using insulated concrete formwork, which posed a potential collapse hazard for firefighters.

Harrison Fire Rescue was called out about 10 p.m. Tuesday to the home on Delta Drive for a report of a fully involved structure fire.

Based on information received from Calumet County Dispatch, and first-hand information from responding volunteer firefighters, additional fire departments were called to help.

Harrison Fire Rescue responded with three engines, one heavy rescue, and a utility truck.

When they arrived, officers found the multi-story home fully involved.

Due to the volume of water running four hoselines, crew members hooked a hydrant for sustainability, according to the news releas. Fire engines only carry 1,000 gallons of water.

Fire departments require a substantial amount of water for fully engulfed structure fires. Crews used approximately 27,000 gallons of water.

As additional departments arrived , additional attack lines were deployed for fire suppression and exposure protection for neighboring structures.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
