DISTURBANCE AT ERB PARK RESULTS IN INJURY AND ONGOING INVESTIGATION

(APPLETON, WIS., July 31, 2023)—The Appleton Police Department is currently conducting an active investigation into an incident that occurred at Erb Park earlier today. One individual was injured in a shooting and has been transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

At approximately 4:30 PM, Appleton police officers responded to reports of a disturbance at Erb Park, located at 1800 N. Morrison Street. Upon arrival, they located an injured person and several people fleeing from the park. Medical attention was immediately rendered and the injured individual was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officers secured a perimeter and utilized all available resources to identify those involved.

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, specific details regarding the circumstances of the incident, the identities of those involved, are not being released at this time. Our investigators are diligently working to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and piece together the events leading up to the incident. One person is in custody related to this incident and based on the investigation it is believed that the victim was targeted. The investigation continues and we do not believe the community is in danger.

The Appleton Police Department would like to assure the community that we take incidents like this very seriously. The safety and well-being of our residents and visitors are of the utmost importance to us. The shelter-in-place order for neighbors in the area has been lifted.

We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the disturbance or has any information relevant to the investigation to come forward and assist us in this process. Witnesses or individuals with information are encouraged to contact the Appleton Police Department’s non-emergency line at 920-832-5500.

As this is an ongoing investigation, further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. We kindly request the public’s patience and cooperation during this process. Park and Recreation programming will continue at Erb Park Facilities tomorrow as scheduled. The Appleton Police Department will have additional staff available at the park tomorrow.
