KAUKAUNA — Fans have learned to expect nothing less than a thriller when conference rivals Kaukauna and Kimberly face each other — in any sport.

Tuesday’s softball game between defending state champion Kaukauna and Kimberly was no exception.

The Ghosts rallied in the eighth inning for a dramatic 3-0 victory to sweep the season series against the Papermakers.

Kimberly (13-8) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Their lead held until the bottom of the seventh when the Ghosts pushed through a run to tie the game.

Going into extra innings, Kimberly was unable to score in the top of the 8th.

In the bottom half of the inning, with one runner on base, reigning FVA player of the year Karly Meredith blasted a two-run home run to end the game.

The victory preserved Kaukauna’s undefeated season at 12-0 and keeps the winning streak alive at 63.

Kaukauna is back in action Wednesday for a conference game at Appleton North.
