KAUKAUNA — A Kaukauna Area School District fifth-grade teacher was arrested Monday and faces possible charges of attempted – exposing a child to harmful materials or harmful descriptions or narrations.
Ty M. Maki, 43, a Kaukauna fifth-grade teacher at River View Middle School, was booked into the Outagamie County Jail pending formal charges being presented in court, according to a Kaukauna Police Department news release.
Throughout the investigation, detectives say they submitted numerous subpoenas and search warrants, according to the news release. Detectives learned Maki was engaged in sexually explicit chatting via an online app with a person who he believed was under the age of 16.
At this time there is no evidence to suggest that any children in this area were harmed or exposed to harmful materials.
According to a statement, the district immediately placed Maki on administrative leave and will continue to cooperate with the Kaukauna Police Department as they investigate the matter.
