APPLETON — Over the past few days, Appleton police working traffic safety speed enforcement made 128 stops along the highway, including recorded speeds of 93, 95, 98, and 108 mph.
According to a social media post, Appleton police say the speeds, the number of stops, and the frequency with which officers are encountering concerning driving behavior are not isolated incidents.
The photo above shows three traffic stops with a fourth being initiated, involving four different officers working the same stretch of highway during directed traffic enforcement based on crash data, traffic trends, and speeding concerns.
Police did not share which roadway they were focusing on.
Excessive speed dramatically reduces the time a driver has to react and increases both the likelihood and severity of a crash. The consequences can be devastating, police caution.
“Our officers will continue working to address dangerous driving and keep our roads safer. Please slow down, stay focused, and remember that getting there a few minutes faster is never worth risking someone’s life,” police said in the post.
