GRAND CHUTE — A semi-truck fire on northbound I-41 was contained Monday morning after the truck crashed into a construction barrier following a tire blowout. No injuries were reported in the incident.

According to a news. release, the Grand Chute Fire Department was sent at approximately 7:10 a.m. to the scene south of Highway 15. Initial reports from the Outagamie County Communications Center confirmed that the driver had safely gotten out of his truck before responders arrived.

When they arrived, fire crews found the tractor of the semi-truck fully engulfed in flames on the shoulder of the interstate. The fire was spreading into the trailer, prompting officials to request additional resources through mutual aid due to the scale of the fire and the potential need for an increased water supply.

Firefighters utilized multiple handlines to bring the blaze under control. Because the incident was stabilized quickly, the additional mutual aid units were canceled before they reached the scene.

Northbound Interstate 41 was closed for several hours to accommodate fire suppression, overhaul operations and debris cleanup. During the closure, traffic was diverted onto Wisconsin Avenue.

The Grand Chute Fire Department received assistance from the Grand Chute Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Outagamie County Communications Center.
