Lilly Hubers, left, Agape Koester

KAUKAUNA — Two members of the Kaukauna gymnastics team qualified for the state tournament following a fourth-place team finish Friday at the WIAA Division 2 Sectional in Antigo.

Despite facing an uncertain future for their program, the Kaukauna gymnastics team secured three individual state qualifications during sectionals.

Lilly Hubers qualified for state in two events, taking fourth place on the balance beam with an 8.0 and fifth place in the all-around competition with a score of 32.025.

Agape Koester earned a state berth by placing third on the uneven bars with a score of 7.7.

The Kaukauna gymnastics team finished in fourth place with a total score of 121.625.

Other team highlights included a season-high personal record on the floor exercise for Makenna Isaacs.

Athena Xiong finished seventh on the floor, missing a podium spot by .05 points.

The individual achievements come as the school has announced the gymnastics program is being discontinued, citing low numbers, travel and facilities use.

Boosters have launched a petition to save the program.

The WIAA state individual gymnastics tournament is Saturday, March 7 in Wisconsin Rapids.
