KAUKAUNA — John Verbeten aka “John VanEss” has re-launched the famous WKAU on the Internet as i105-WKAU.
Featuring not only great music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, but also some great classic jingles and commercials.
Aaron Schmidt announced the launch Tuesday on social media.
He said he’s glad to have been a part of this, along with my father, Vern, and several other former WKAU DJs and station engineers.
WKAU was a powerhouse of radio in Northeast Wisconsin, particularly during the 1970s and 80s. Originally licensed to Kaukauna, it served the Fox Cities (Appleton, Oshkosh, and Green Bay) and is remembered primarily for its high-energy Top 40 and Rock formats.
It operated until 1990 before undergoing a variety of format changes.
