GREEN BAY — Dangerous wind chills gripped the Fox Valley early this morning, with most locations reporting wind chills between minus 30 and minus 50 degrees.

Weather officials warn that these conditions present a significant risk to anyone outdoors as the arctic air mass remains entrenched over the area.

According to a news release from the National Weather Service in Green Bay, there will be little relief from the extreme cold throughout the day Friday.

High temperatures are expected to remain well below zero, ranging from minus 5 to minus 15 degrees. Even with daytime sunshine, wind chill values are projected to stay between minus 25 and minus 35 degrees.

The coldest air temperatures of this weather event are anticipated to arrive tonight.

Overnight lows are forecast to drop between minus 15 and minus 30 degrees.

While winds are expected to lighten during this period, the sheer drop in air temperature will keep wind chills at dangerous levels.

Forecasters indicate that while the most extreme temperatures are expected to depart by Saturday, the region will not see a return to seasonal averages immediately.

Well-below normal temperatures are forecast to continue into next week. Residents are encouraged to limit time outdoors and ensure they have adequate winter emergency supplies.
