APPLETON — An Appleton teen (whose parents are from Kaukauna) seriously injured last summer in a freak power washer accident has returned to his most beloved past-time — fishing.
Brett Jedwabny has spent the past year recovering from the serious injuries sustained in the accident.
His parents, Tyler and Nicole, grew up in Kaukauna and have been sharing updates about their son’s journey on their Facebook page.
According to a Facebook post Wednesday from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association, JJedwabny’s accident, he’s posted a Registered Master Angler fish — exactly one year from the date of his accident.
“Fishing was Brett’s No. 1 motivation, and it brings us complete joy to be able to see him back at it,” the association wrote on a Facebook post. “We can’t wait to present Brett his Master Angler plaque along with all of his fishing families at the end of the season.”
Jedwabny was using a power washer July 9, 2024 to clean a wheel cart when the washer hit one of the cart’s tires, which shattered and debris came back and hit him in the eye and skull.
He was rushed to Children’s Wisconsin Hospital in Milwaukee and was put in a medically induced coma for a time before beginning his long and grueling recovery.
He’s also is a member of the Appleton North Fishing Team and has received strong support from the fishing community throughout the state.
