KAUKAUNA — Workers doing renovations at Park Community Charter School have come upon an unexpected treasure from years gone by.
A vintage shoe was unearthed in the insulation of the attic during demolition — the first treasure unearthed from this summer’s renovation project.
The shoe, with laces on the top, and some type of cleat on the bottom, appear to be some type of football shoe.

Park School was built in 1897 to house both a North Side elementary school and a high school, reflecting the city’s growth and the need for a centralized educational facility.
For many years, it served as the high school until what is now River View Middle School was built to serve as the cities high school.
The renovations are part of the $198 million school district referendum approved by voters last November.
Renovation at Park include:
- Creating secure main entrance by moving library to upper level
- Replace elevator and extend access to upper level
- Flexible furniture in classrooms
- Computer network switch replacement
The referendum also will enable the district to:
- Build a new, innovative middle school to replace River View, which the district says no longer adequately meets the needs of students.
- Expand access to 4K and 5K programs at Victor Haen Elementary School, providing more opportunities for the youngest learners.
- Enhance safety and security across all district schools and address high-priority maintenance needs.
