LAKE GENEVA — With school out for the summer, the southern Wisconsin resort community of Lake Geneva is ramping up for tourist season, particularly visitors from just over the border in Illinois.

And with it, comes loud summertime music from visitors who hope to get away and have some fun.

In response, Lake Geneva police on Wednesday announced on social media that they will be stepping up enforcement of the city’s noise ordinance.

“We all enjoy music … but if your playlist is shaking windows, scaring squirrels, and setting off car alarms, it might be too loud,” read the post from the police department.

Police say the will be stepping up enforcement of the loud noise ordinance in the downtown area.

That means keeping it respectful with car stereos, party speakers and any other “bring the club to the curb” setups, police say.

Read the ordinance HERE.

The ordinance includes radios, music or audio systems, machines or devices, speakers, amplifiers and similar devices.

Prohibited, is the use of, operation or permitting to be played, used or operated, any radio receiving set, musical instrument, music or audio system, machine or device, speakers, amplifiers and similar devices for the producing or reproducing of sound in a loud and unnecessary manner.

The operation of any radio, stereo or other similar instrument, music system, machine or device in a manner as to be heard outside a 75-foot radius of the source from which it is projected shall be prima facie evidence of a violation of this section, except for those activities allowed by permit issued by the city, according to the ordinance.
