STURGEON BAY — Authorities are investigating the discovery of the bodies of a woman and a man discovered a day apart in the waters of Green Bay off Door County.
Investigators haven’t said if they believe the to cases are related.
In the first discovery according to a news release, the Door County Sheriff’s Office was notified about 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, of a body found floating in the water near Little Strawberry Island in the Bay of Green Bay.
Emergency personnel from the Gibraltar Fire Department, Gibraltar First Responders, Gibraltar Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Door County Emergency Services and the Door County Sheriff’s Office responded the scene. The body was recovered and confirmed to be a female victim.
Her identity is being withheld pending confirmation. This incident remains under investigation.
An autopsy is being conducted by the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Then today, Thursday, June 5, the Sturgeon Bay Police Department said the Door County Communications Center received a 911 call about 11:20 a.m. about someone finding a body of a deceased man in the water between the Michigan Street Bridge and the Door County Maritime Museum.
The Sturgeon Bay Police Department along with Door County EMS and Sturgeon Bay Fire Department responded. Responders determined the man was dead and life saving measures were not viable.
The Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office were notified and responded to the scene.
The identity of the deceased will not be released pending notification of family, according to police. Initial investigation would indicate the public is not in any danger.
