APPLETON — Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton is continuing to serve families following a fire Sunday at its crematory.
In a social media post Tuesday, the company said an incident in the crematory building resulted in a fire that caused damage to the facility.
“Thankfully there were no injuries sustained and all loved ones in our care were unaffected by the incident,” the company wrote. “The fire does not affect our ability to continuing caring for families experiencing a loss, as daily services will continue as normal.”
According to a news release from the Appleton Fire Department, firefighters responded last Sunday morning to the report of a fire at Wichmann’s on N. Superior Street.
Firefighters arrived to find flames coming through the roof of a detached building.
Crews attacked the fire from inside the building and the roof, bringing it under control within 30 minutes.
Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. Damage to the building and its contents is estimated at $75,000.
The Grand Chute Fire Department, Appleton Police Department, and WE Energies assisted the Appleton Fire Department.
