K1AUKANA — “See what you can do to bring this to the right attention before someone does a rolling stop into a first grader,” says Jamie Smithey.

He’s talking about what he says are worn out pavement markings near two schools on Kaukauna’s south side.

Smithey, who lives in the Thelen Estates neighborhood, is near Electa Quinney Elementary and Dr. H.B. Tanner Early Learning Center.

Several streets that lead into Ann Street have outdated or missing pavement markings.

Sullivan Ave, Glenview Ave, Parkwood Dr, Thelen Ave have no indication that drivers are coming up on a school zone, Smithey points out.

Last summer the City of Kaukauna did work on the sidewalks and crosswalks, so Smithey says he was hopeful the street paint would be updated.

Smithey says he called the city in late summer last year, and was told “they would pass along the concern to the correct department.”

With the warmer temperatures coming back and more kids out to play, Smithey says it’s time to bring this topic back up.

Kaukauna Community News has reached out to the city for comment.
