CHICAGO — With the Trump . administration’s promised roundup of undocumented immigrants expected to begin as early as Monday, advocates are warning immigrants — even those with legal status — to prepare.

In light of potential emergencies, families are being encouraged to create emergency binders containing essential documents.
This advice extends to families regardless of immigration status.
The National Immigrant Justice Center in Chicago, Gov. JB Pritzker and ithers have released resource guides to assist families in assembling these binders.
Essential Documents for the Emergency Binder:
- Identification: State ID, driver’s license, passport, Social Security card or ITIN, birth certificates (include long version)
- Immigration Documents: A-number, work permit, visa, legal permanent residence card, documents submitted to your attorney or immigration
- Legal Documents: Marriage/divorce certificates, short-term guardianship (if applicable), legal custody documents, medical information, police documents, restriction orders, criminal record, check stubs, mortgage information, asset protection plan
- Other Documents: Rental agreements, family emergency plan
Organization Tips: - Each family member should have their own binder or section.
- Double-check documents for accuracy, as errors can cause issues later.
Documents to Carry Daily vs. Documents to Never Carry: - Carry Daily: Green card (if you have one), municipal ID (city key), state ID or driver’s license issued in the US, Know Your Rights Card, telephone numbers of immigration lawyers, advocates or non-profit legal services
- Never Carry: Documents from your country of origin, false identity documents, false immigration documents
