APPLETON, Wis. — Appleton and Green Bay experienced their warmest years on record in 2024, according to data released today by the National Weather Service.

Appleton’s average temperature reached 49.5 degrees Fahrenheit, surpassing the previous record of 49.3 degrees set in 2012.

Green Bay recorded an average temperature of 50.1 degrees, shattering the previous record of 49.4 degrees set in 1931 and 2012.

Despite occasional drought conditions, Appleton experienced its second-wettest year on record with 44.04 inches of precipitation, falling just short of the record 48.03 inches.

Green Bay recorded its 16th wettest year with 34.69 inches of rainfall.

The unusually warm temperatures significantly reduced energy consumption for home heating.

Both cities recorded the fewest Heating Degree Days (HDD) on record. Appleton registered 6,146 HDD, compared to the previous low of 6,480 in 2012.

Green Bay recorded 5,954 HDD, lower than the previous record of 6,385 set in 2012. HDD measure the number of degrees a day’s average temperature falls below 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
