SHAWANO — There are times where maybe we’ve all wanted to, but this Shawano student actually did call 911 for help of an unusual kind.

According to a social media post from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, a 10-year-old on Tuesday called 911 to say that he needed help with his math homework.

He told dispatchers that his family “wasn’t very good at math either” and he needed help.

Although a sheriff’s deputy in his report indicated “personally, I am also not overly proficient when it comes to math, but nonetheless, I responded to assist.”

With the help of the deputy, they were able to work together and solve the decimal related math problems.

The young caller was provided a business card and was told we are always here to help, except next time he should probably use the non-emergency line if it’s not a life-threatening situation.

The sheriff’s office thanked the deputy for taking time out of his day to be a friend to this young man.
