BELOIT – The U.S. Navy will commission the USS Beloit (LCS 29), a Freedom-variant littoral combat ship, on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024 in Milwaukee.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Park in Milwaukee.
The ship is the first Navy vessel to bear the name of the city of Beloit to honor the city’s contributions to the U.S. Navy, particularly the Fairbanks Morse plant, which has built engines for many Navy ships and submarines, including the USS Beloit itself.
This recognition highlights the city’s role in supporting national defense and its strong connection to the Navy.
The ship was built at the Fincantieri Marinette Marine shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin
The commissioning ceremony is expected to be attended by hundreds of people, including Navy officials, local dignitaries and residents of Beloit.
Littoral class combat ships are designed for operations in shallow water and are equipped with a variety of weapons and sensors.
The USS Beloit will be homeported at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida.
