OUTAGAMIE COUNTY — Social media reports of women being approached by people in a pickup who threaten them with a gun is likely a hoax.

The Outagamie County Sheriff’s office on Tuesday responded to the reports on its own Facebook page.

“We are aware of several social media posts indicating female drivers have been approached by subjects in pickup trucks who then threaten the women with a gun,” according to the post.

However the sheriff’s office emphasized they have not received any credible reports of the incidents and have not been contacted by any victims.

“We do not believe these incidents are credible, given the lack of any reporting,” they said.

Regardless, the sheriff’s office has increased patrols in the suspected area as a precaution.
