KAUKAUNA — A new custom cabinet maker has found a home in Kaukauna, bringing generations of experience to her craft.

Amy Timmerman moved to Kaukauna last November from Pennsylvania to open Timmerman Custom Cabinetry and Millwork.

She originally worked in her family’s business that first started in 1718 (19 generations ago) and opened her own shop 16 years ago in Pennsylvania at age 16. She was born and trained traditionally Amish from a very strict sect in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Timmerman says she fell in love with this area and the people when visiting with her wife, Dr. Natasha Sahr, who was visiting her hometown in summer 2023.

Shortly after, they decided to relocate back to area and found a home in Kaukauna that also has a building to accommodate her shop.

Timmerman specializes in anything made of wood.

She creates pieces made entirely from solid wood that allow the wood to continue to live and move freely without restrictions that cause warping and cracking.

She has a thorough understanding of wood finishing and color theory that helps pieces to appear finer and richer.

Timmerman says her knowledge of wood theory and joinery was passed on from generations of knowledge in the family business and instilled at a young age.

Given her family was one of the first to make pieces of the shaker style, and many of their pieces are on display in the shaker museum, she has a soft spot for pieces of this style in my craft.
