TOWN OF BUCHANAN — Engineers are assessing damage to two businesses after a car crashed into a strip mall Saturday morning. No one was injured, and the driver of the car declined medical treatment.

According to a news release, Town of Buchanan Fire and rescue was called out about 7:40 a.m. Saturday to the Eisenhower strip mall off Calumet near 441 for a report of a car that had crashed into a building.

The first officer on scene notified responders that the driver was trapped in the vehicle.

Command arrived shortly after and evacuated the structure, as well as safely removed the driver from the vehicle with assistance from Outagamie County sheriff’s deputies.

The stores in the strip mall were evacuated until fire officials could confirm that the electrical services were safe for the other occupants.

There were no injuries to any employees or other customers in the building, and the vehicle’s driver refused medical service.

There was significant damage to Biggby Coffee and they will be closed until a structural engineer is able to assess the extent of the damage.

The building owner and other occupants were notified of the situation.

Since an interior wall was also impacted the neighboring store, Suppz, will be closed until the structural engineer gives them the all clear to reopen.

After removing the vehicle from the store, crews worked to clear the entryway so the restoration company could board up the business.

WE Energies assisted in shutting off the power to the store. Our final engine to clear the scene left about 2 1⁄2 hours after the initial call.

Buchanan Fire and Rescue was assisted by CLFD, Outagamie County Law Enforcement and WE Energies.
