APPLETON — A fundraiser is being organized to support an Appleton teen seriously injured earlier this month in a freak power washer accident.

Brett Jedwabny, a member of the Appleton North High School fishing team, currently is hospitalized at Children’s Wisconsin Hospital in Milwaukee.

His parents, Tyler and Nicole, grew up in Kaukauna and a GoFundMe page shared on social media and posted to the Kaukauna Community Group already has surpassed its $40,000 goal to help support the family during the crisis.

Brett was using a power washer July 9 to clean a wheel cart when the washer hit one of the cart’s tires, which shattered and debris came back and hit him in the eye and skull.

In updates on the couple’s Facebook page, Tyler and Nicole are asking for prayers from the community for Brett.

“A Cast For Hope” is set for Aug. 3-4, 2024 where anglers will compete for the biggest fish in the following species: Pike, Walleye, Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Perch.

The winner of each species will receive a plaque donated by Appleton Trophy & Engraving.

The tournament is open to the public for all ages on any public body of water in Wisconsin through the Fishdonkey app.

Registration: To register for the tournament download free Fishdonkey app and search for “Cast for Hope Tournament” and join. All fish must be registered with a bump board.

Entry Fee: $25 entry fee per angler of any age who will be fishing in the tournament.
