KAUKAUNA — Two residents are without a home Friday after fire damaged their Kaukauna home.
According to a news release, the Kaukauna Fire Department responded today at 11:22 a.m. to a structure fire at 905 Wilson Street where a single-family residential was reported to have smoke and flames coming from the home.
Firefighters arrived on scene in under 3 minutes from dispatch to find light smoke coming from the basement, according to the news release.
Fire crews made entry to find a smoke-filled basement along with smoldering general materials.
Firefighters determined the fire melted a plastic plumbing line which allowed water to discharge and extinguish the fire and contain it to the area of origin.
The fire was deemed under control shortly after arrival and crews were able to begin ventilating the house of smoke and other gases.
No civilians or firefighters were harmed in the fire, but two residents were displaced.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire but did arrive home to discover the fire. Estimated damages to the structure and contents are $25,000, mostly from smoke damage.
The house had working smoke detectors on all floors which helped alert the family there was a fire when they returned home.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
