APPLETON — The community is rallying around an Appleton teen seriously injured last week in a freak accident.

Brett Jedwabny currently is hospitalized at Children’s Wisconsin Hospital in Milwaukee and was put in a medically induced coma when he arrived their last week.

His parents, Tyler and Nicole, grew up in Kaukauna and a GoFundMe page shared on social media and posted to the Kaukauna Community Group already has surpassed its $40,000 goal to help support the family during the crisis.

Brett’s father, Tyler, told NBC 26 that his son was using a power washer to clean a wheel cart when the washer hit one of the cart’s tires.

“Apparently it shattered. The debris came back and caught him in his right eye and up into his skull,” Tyler told the TV station.

Tyler says his wife saw Brett lying unconscious through their backyard window and called 911. Brett was then flown by helicopter to Children’s.

In a post on the couple’s Facebook page from Friday, Tyler and Nicole asked for prayers from the community for Brett, who was on a ventilator in a medically induced coma.

Many in the community are sharing their support for the Jedwabney’s as well.

“This family is near and dear to our hearts and we are begging you all to stop what you are doing and say a prayer for Brett as he is currently in surgery,” read a post on the Holy Cross Men’s Open Facebook page.
