Wisconsin’s four major utilities announced Tuesday they plan to employ local union workers in dozens of new clean energy projects across the state.

We Energies, Alliant Energy, Madison Gas & Electric and Xcel Energy have pledged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, Wisconsin Laborers’ District Council, and Wisconsin Operating Engineers Local 139 to employ union workers.

“Proud union workers will build Wisconsin’s clean energy future, helping grow our economy, lower energy costs, and create new jobs in high-demand industries in every corner of the state,” President Joe Biden said in a statement.

As part of today’s announcement, Wisconsin utilities are pledging to use only union labor to build new renewable energy projects in the state.

Under President Biden, private companies have invested $2 billion in clean power and $170 million in clean energy manufacturing in Wisconsin, creating thousands of good-paying jobs that will now go to union workers.
