KAUKAUNA — The Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts wrestling team will return to the WIAA team wrestling tournament after a sectional win Tuesday in Bay Port.

Kaukauna defeated Pulaski 54-11 in the semifinal and defeated Bay Port 36-23 to clinch an invite to state.

The reigning state champs qualified for the 15th time in the last 17 seasons and for the 22nd time overall.

A year ago, the Ghosts claimed their third title in as many years with a 41-26 win over Marshfield in the championship match at the UW Field House in Madison.

The team had a string of five straight appearances from 1999-2003 and have surpassed that streak with their current run of 12 consecutive appearances.

They now have won a total of seven state championships, including four straight from 2014-17 before the current run. The Galloping Ghosts have also finished runner-up four times, including 2000, 2003, 2008 and 2013.

The 2024 State Team Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, 2024 at the UW Field House, Madison.
