KAUKAUNA — Third District Alderperson Mary Jo Kilgas has announced she will run for another term on the Kaukauna Common Council.

The general election is set for April 2, 2024 to coincide with the presidential primary. A primary for council seats would take place Feb. 20, 2024.

Kilgas was appointed to the Common Council in June of 2021 to fill an open position. She then ran for Third District Alderperson, winning the seat in April of 2022.

“With a proven track record of dedicated service and a commitment to the community, Mary Jo Kilgas seeks to continue advocating for the needs and aspirations of the residents of the Third District,” according to a news release.

Kilgas also has served on the library board, first as the school district representative, then as the council representative.

District 3 includes the southside downtown and near southside areas west of Crooks Avenue.

Candidates for local offices bagan circulating nomination papers for the April general election on Dec. 1, 2023.

The following officers are to be elected:

  • Mayor, for the term of two years, to succeed Anthony Penterman, whose term will expire on April 16, 2024. Penterman has announced he will run for re-election.
  • City Attorney, for the term of two years, to succeed Kevin Davidson, whose term will expire on April 30, 2024.
  • Municipal Judge, for the term of four years, to succeed John Van Drunen, whose term will expire on April 16, 2024.
  • An Alderperson, for the term of two years, to succeed Jennie Eggleston, Ald. Dist. No. 1, Wards 1, 2, and 3, whose term will expire on April 16, 2024.
  • An Alderperson, for the term of two years, to succeed John Moore, Ald. Dist. No. 2, Wards 4, 5, and 16, whose term will expire on April 16, 2024.
  • An Alderperson, for the term of two years, to succeed Mary Jo Kilgas, Ald. Dist. No. 3, Wards 6 and 7, whose term will expire on April 16, 2024.
  • An Alderperson, for the term of two years, to succeed Mike Coenen, Ald. Dist. No. 4, Wards 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, whose term will expire on April 16, 2024.
  • School Board member for a term of three years to succeed Josh Karl whose term will expire on April 22, 2024.
  • School Board member for a term of three years to succeed Sally Feistel whose term will expire on April 22, 2024.

NOMINATION PAPERS

The first day to circulate nomination papers is December 1, 2023, and the final day for filing nomination papers in the office of the City Clerk is 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

  • Friday, December 22, 2023 – Last day (5 p.m.) for incumbents not seeking re-election to file Declaration of Non-Candidacy with the City Clerk.
  • Tuesday, January 2, 2024 – Last day (5 p.m.) for candidates to file nomination papers with the City Clerk.
  • Tuesday, February 20, 2024 – Spring Primary (if required).
  • Tuesday, April 2, 2024 – Spring Election.
