FINAL: For the second year in a row, the Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts came up one game short of a trip to the WIAA Division 2 state title game.

In a game featuring two top seeds, Kaukauna fell to Waunakee, 24-14.

The Ghosts kept it close the whole game, trailing only 10-7 at the half.

Kaukauna entered the fourth quarter down 17-14, but couldn’t get past Waunakee’s grinding offense.

KAUKAUNA — The Galloping Ghosts return to the WIAA Division 2 state semifinal Friday when they face Waunakee in a Level 4 showdown with a trip to state on the line. (Tickets, directions)

This will be the second year in a row that Kaukauna has played in a Division 2 Level 4 game, but this time they’re hoping to move on to one more game. They got there by defeating Cedarburg 42-13 on Friday.

Waunakee, also a No. 1 seed, is coming off a 49-13 win over No. 2 New Richmond.
