KAUKAUNA — Kaukauna police on Friday released the name of the officer who shot and injured a suspect Sept. 13 during an investigation that began with a report of a juvenile runaway.
Police say the officer is Sgt. Michael Frank, a 25-year veteran of the force.
He’s been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
Kaukauna police officers had been dispatched Sept. 13 to check an address in the 500 block of Diedrich St. Wednesday evening to attempt to locate a juvenile runaway who was possibly on the way to that location in a stolen vehicle, according to a news release from police.
The runaway was reported to possibly be in the company of an unknown man.
Officers saw the stolen vehicle arrive at the location and attempted to contact the occupants of the vehicle.
During that attempted contact, Frank shot his firearm, striking the driver of the vehicle.
Officers rendered medical aid, and the man, a 28-year-old Oshkosh resident, was transported to an area hospital.
